This is what is known as character building backpacking. Not all backpacking is this miserable. For one thing, tents were invented several millennia ago and now weigh less than 4 pounds.
Had the near identical experience with Princeton's identical program decades ago. The only difference was that we literally had no facilitated discussions, just arduous hiking in the rain in the Adirondacks with no apparent point, and I made no friends because by signing up for the non-cushy hiking, everyone was in sports except me. Did I regret going? Yes, I think it was a solid 10 out of 10 regret.
I didn't know it needed to be said, but lying is bad and wrong.
Omission is, at least in some cases, understandable. Faith & trust seem like reasonable things for a school to try to inculcate, and deliberately not giving a full plan for the day might be a decent way to do that.
But lying is bad. (I'm also really surprised anyone would lie about what year they were in when it's trivially easy to find out, and you'll be sharing a campus for at least the next year.)

Finally an article to share with my gay friends! (Im joking unless you want to share the profits then we talk real business)

The lying is worrying.

Ok, now redesign it for next year so it'll (likely) be un-regretted by, even worthwhile for, persons like yourself. Broad brush is fine.
Clean your camera sensor!
(I just finished the article and it was very good so I’m editing it now—the pictures were great but CLEAN YOUR SENSOR!!)
